Rooted In Change: Strength, Movement, & Pelvic Health in Perimenopause and Menopause

  • The Portland Yoga Project 449 Forest Avenue Portland, ME, 04101 United States (map)

With Dr. Jenn Gelfand, PT, DPT, E-RYT Physical Therapist, Pelvic Health Specialist, Yoga & Barre Instructor and Owner of Root To Rise.

erimenopause and menopause bring real, often confusing changes to the body—strength feels different, recovery takes longer, symptoms like leakage, pelvic pressure, joint pain, or core weakness may show up for the first time. Yet many people are told to simply “do less,” push through, or accept these changes as inevitable.

Rooted in Change offers a different, more supportive approach.

This 90-minute workshop blends pelvic floor physical therapy principles with yoga-informed movement and strength to help you better understand what’s changing in your body—and how to move with confidence, stability, and trust through midlife. Through clear education and guided movement, you’ll learn how hormonal shifts affect the pelvic floor, core, joints, and nervous system, and why symptoms are common but not inevitable.

Together, we’ll explore:

  • How perimenopause and menopause impact pelvic floor function, core coordination, and joint stability

  • Why strength and stability matter more—not less—during this stage of life

  • How breath, pressure management, and whole-body support influence symptoms like leakage, pain, or heaviness

  • Practical movement strategies you can apply to yoga, workouts, and daily life

The movement portion is accessible, supportive, and adaptable for all bodies, with options for pelvic pressure, joint pain, or fatigue. Emphasis is placed on stability over flexibility, whole-body connection rather than isolated muscles, and learning to listen to your body without judgment.

You’ll leave with:

  • A clearer understanding of your changing body

  • Tools to move with more confidence and support

  • Guidance on when additional pelvic health support may be helpful

  • Reassurance that you don’t have to navigate this transition alone

This workshop is appropriate for anyone in perimenopause or menopause (or wondering if they might be), especially those experiencing changes in strength, bladder control, pelvic comfort, or overall movement confidence.
